When my riding isn’t constrained by work, mowing the lawn or spending time with the kids, I can choose any time of day to ride. So what is the best time of day to get out there? Often it depends on the weather. With these days in mind, I’m excited to introduce Epic Ride Weather’s latest new feature: the Best Time to Ride picker.

Choose a ride time by weather forecast

You can choose the best time to ride by the weather that’s forecasted for your ride. The weather forecast shown is based on the ride start time. At each time, the best (or worst) weather forecasted for the duration of your ride is shown.

Most weather apps will show you the outlook for the day at a single location. That’s not very useful if you’re on a bike. The Best Time to Ride outlook is based on your route and pace, combining multiple forecasts from locations on the route along with your timing to produce a visualization of the best (or worst) expected weather based on your ride start time:

Multiple forecasts are combined at each point

Wind speed and probability of precipitation are the highest expected for the duration of your ride. The temperature shown is the lowest for temperatures below 12°C (53.6°F), and the highest for temperatures above that.

Select a start time

Use the clock button to pop up the forecast-based time picker. A start time can also be selected in the same way as before, by tapping on the date and time directly.

I’d love to hear feedback from you about this new feature. Give it a try and let me know what you think! David Green david@epicrideweather.com

Enjoy,
